Environmental Commitment

Efficient usage of natural resources.

Vision

Sustainability means running our operations based on responsible use of natural resources, food safety, welfare promotion and the planet’s health.

Eco-efficiency

Since the beginning of the processes until the delivery of the product, our brands are strictly controlled to maintain the sustainability index at satisfactory and exemplary levels.

Animal welfare

Ethical commitment to animal well-being is present in the company's values, as well as in the transparency of adopting ethical procedures for animals.

In what we believe::

Responsible purchase of raw material

We follow the public commitment of livestock, an agreement led by the NGO Greenpeace. In order to comply with these criteria, the operations undergo independent auditing each year. The company also develops, in partnership with Greenpeace, annual work plans to seek improvements to its socio-environmental processes.

Relationship with suppliers

The focus on quality means that the company's relations with its suppliers of raw material are guided by the partnership. Therefore we support and guide suppliers on the improvement of practices and processes helping them to act in a sustainable way.

Sustainability programs

Aware of our role in the sector, given the capillarity of operations, we have adopted several actions with the intention of being an agent of change in the productive chains in which we operate.

Water Management

Water is one of the most important aspects of our production processes, which means water usage must comply with our corporate guidelines and targets to reduce water usage at our industrial units. Our work routines also comply with the Sustainable Water Management Program, which is supervised by a Committee representing all the Company’s businesses.

Waste Management and Gas Emission

Over 80% of our post-industrial waste is used for composting, recycling or energy reuse. JBS complies with the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) which involves investing in best practices, such as reverse logistics for post-consumption packaging, in order to increase the percentage of recycled materials and reducing the volume of landfill waste.

Inpact Participation

We participate of important forums locally and globally, discussing sustainability issues with civil society and other participants in the value chain. Among these forums that we have participated, it is the National Pact by the Institute for the Eradication of Slave Labor (InPACTO). This initiative is focused on strengthening efforts to combat all forms of slave labor that in Brazil. Since 2007, JBS is a signatory of the National Pact for the Eradication of Slave Labor in Brazil. In 2014, JBS was the first food company to become a member of the Institute.
