Seara operates numerous production facilities that are Halal certified by globally recognised certification bodies within Islamic markets. These bodies are accredited and approved by various international authorities, such as the Gulf Accreditation Center (GAC), the Saudi SFDA Halal Center, and JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia).
Seara’s Halal-certified factories operate in full compliance with Islamic religious requirements (Shariah) and the international regulations dictated by the aforementioned bodies. Consequently, they strictly prohibit the presence and processing of Haram (illicit/prohibited) inputs and foodstuffs.
All animals are treated with respect, prioritising animal welfare standards. Furthermore, 100% of production is monitored by Muslim Halal supervisors from accredited certification bodies, who approve and attest to the authenticity of our products and our compliance with process standards.
A: Halal food is that which is permitted for consumption according to Islamic laws, as established in the Quran (the Holy Book of Islam) and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. Consuming Halal food is a religious obligation for Muslims. Therefore, many companies hold Halal certifications to ensure their products adhere to all requirements of the Islamic faith, as is the case with Seara. A Halal food is free from raw materials considered illicit for Muslims, such as swine (pork) and its derivatives, as well as ethyl alcohol. Furthermore, it is important to highlight that for a product to be Halal, all stages of the process are evaluated to ensure the safety and Halal status of the product.
A: We utilise manual slaughter performed by Muslim slaughtermen, supervised by a Muslim supervisor, as well as mechanical slaughter, also supervised by a Muslim, in accordance with the religious and market requirements for the products we manufacture. In both instances, the slaughter ritual is practised ethically and with respect for the animals, following the Islamic laws of the Holy Quran. The Tasmiyah is always invoked—specifically the phrase Bismillah, Allahu Akbar ("In the name of God, God is the greatest")—immediately prior to the incision. Both jugular veins and carotid arteries are severed, in addition to the trachea and oesophagus. During mechanical slaughter, should any of these structures remain intact, the animal is immediately discarded and deemed unfit for consumption. Information regarding whether the slaughter is manual will always be displayed on the packaging of our Halal products.
A: We determine whether animals are stunned based on religious, market, and client requirements, always subject to the approval and supervision of the Halal certification body. In both scenarios, the slaughter ritual is practised ethically and with respect for the animals, adhering to the Islamic laws of the Holy Quran. We highlight that, even where animals undergo stunning prior to slaughter, the process is continuously validated to ensure it does not cause the death of the animal, but merely induces a state of unconsciousness. Recovery tests are conducted to guarantee the efficacy of the stunning process. Information regarding the stunning of animals will always be displayed on the packaging of our Halal products.
For your complete peace of mind, Seara and JBS hold the most important and recognized global certification in Halal Slaughter. This certification is proof that our processes are audited and approved by renowned Islamic entities, guaranteeing the authenticity and compliance of our products.
